Accessibility

We want this site to be usable by everybody, including people using a keyboard alone, a screen reader, magnification, or a browser set to a larger type size.

What we aim for

We work towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA. We are not claiming to have met every one of them on every screen: this is a product under active development, and an honest statement about accessibility is one that says where the work is rather than one that declares victory.

What we do hold ourselves to:

• Every control reachable with a keyboard, and a visible marker showing where the keyboard is.
• Text that survives being enlarged, and a layout that reflows rather than clipping.
• Colors chosen for contrast, and a dark theme that is designed rather than inverted.
• Meaning never carried by color alone.
• Pictures that carry information described in text, and pictures that are decoration marked as decoration so a screen reader skips them.
• Forms whose fields are labelled, and whose errors say what to do next.

Where we know it is imperfect

The listings map is a visual control, and although everything on it is also in the list beside it, the map itself is hard to use without sight. If the map is in your way, the list view shows the same properties and every figure that goes with them.
